Who It’s For: State-employed public defenders, prosecutors, and attorneys who provide supervision, training, or education for state prosecutors & public defenders.
How to Apply: You will need to follow the procedure set forth by your designated state agency. If you are approved for this program, you will need to commit to and complete a three-year service requirement.
What Loans Qualify: Direct and Family Federal Education Loan Program (FFEL) student loans that are not Parent PLUS loans.
How Much?: Up to $10,000 per year, with a maximum of $60,000 total.
Anything Else I Should Know?: You may qualify for this option if you are an attorney employed full-time by a non-profit organization under contract with state or local government in certain situations. That said, if you are in a private practice, you most likely will not qualify for this, even if you provide public defense services under contract to the state.
