Who It’s For: Registered and advanced-practice nurses who work full time in an eligible critical shortage area, or nurse faculty members who work at an accredited school of nursing.
How to Apply: There is an application cycle for this program. You can sign up for emails to be alerted when the next cycle begins. If accepted, you are required to work in a qualifying facility for at least two years.
What Loans Qualify: Most loans can qualify for this option, whether federal, state, or private, as long as the loans in question were taken out specifically for the school of nursing where you received your nursing education and/or for the pre-requisites you completed for said nursing education.
How Much?: Up to 60% of your unpaid nursing debt over two years, with an option to extend to a third year for an additional 25% of the original loan balance.
Anything Else I Should Know?: Be careful about consolidation if you want to pursue this option. A consolidated loan that contains even one ineligible loan will be considered ineligible for this program, even if all the other loans in the consolidation would have otherwise qualified.
