Who It’s For: Health care providers (including physicians, dentists, nurses, mental health professionals, and pharmacists) who agree to work at an approved site in a health professional shortage area for at least two years.
How to Apply: You can find application information on the program’s website, although the current application cycle (2017/2018) has exhausted its funds, making application unavailable at the time of this writing.
What Loans Qualify: This program should benefit most loans (including federal, state, and private) that were used to pay for the relevant healthcare degree and were taken out from a qualified lending institution. Parent PLUS loans, Primary Care loans, and personal loans will not qualify.
How Much?: Varies depending on a number of factors (including the level of need at the chosen site and the amount of funding left in the program), up to a possible maximum of $35,000.
Anything Else I Should Know?: This program only benefits loans in an active repayment status. Loans that are in deferment, forbearance, or default will not qualify for this program.
