Rhode Island Primary Care Loan Forgiveness Program

Who It’s For: Physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants newly recruited to practice in the state of Rhode Island. They must be practicing in the disciplines of Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Pediatrics.

How to Apply: You can find the necessary paperwork in the “How do I apply?” section of the program website.

What Loans Qualify: Any loans (including federal, state, and private) that were used to pay for the relevant healthcare degree and were taken out from a qualified lending institution.

How Much?: Up to $20,000 per year for physicians, or up to $10,000 per year for nurse practitioners and physician assistants, up to a maximum of 4 years.

Anything Else I Should Know?: Availability for this program is limited by state funding. At the time of this writing, no applications for physicians are being accepted due to lack of funds, but applications for nurse practitioners and physician assistants are still available.
