Loans Eligible if Consolidated Under Direct Loans

There are some loans that aren’t eligible for PSLF, but can be made eligible through loan consolidation. These loans are:

  • Federal Family Education Loan Program Loans including
    • Subsidized and Unsubsidized Stafford Loans
    • Graduate and Parent PLUS Loans
    • FFELP Consolidation Loans
  • Federal Nursing Loans
  • Federal Perkins Loans
  • Health Education Assistance Loans
  • Nurse Faculty Loans
  • Loans for Disadvantaged Students
  • Health Profession Student Loans

IMPORTANT: You must consolidate these loans through studentaid.gov to make them eligible Direct Loans.

ALSO IMPORTANT: Any payments made prior to consolidation do not count towards PSLF so if you must consolidate to access the program, do so right away. There is an exception to this under the temporary PSLF waiver. If you submit a completed consolidation application no later than October 31, 2022, the consolidation will NOT reset your PSLF or income-driven plan count.
